A grant from the England Golf Trust has really boosted my game
Ollie Scott used his grant money from the Trust to may for extra lessons and this has helped him reduce his handicap to one. He has also represented the under-18 Yorkshire boys’ squad aged just 14 at the time and has just recently been selected to play for the Yorkshire England regional team vs East Midland England regional team.
He has played since he was three and says golf means everything to him. He aims to head to the USA on a golf scholarship and even become a professional golfer.
‘I have loved golf for as long as I can remember. It means everything to me and I play whenever I can. My family think I am crazy because I won’t go on holiday in the summer six-weeks of school holiday because I want to play in golf events,’ said Ollie.
‘I used the grant to fund extra lessons each month through the winter with my existing coach. This meant I could see my coach every fortnight and this has helped my game.’
‘With help from this grant, I have come down to +1.6 handicap and my game is in a great place. I am really looking forward to the season.’
‘I am now in the Yorkshire Boys under-18 second squad. I am proud of this because I was only 14 years old at time of selection I am hoping to establish myself as a regular starter for the Yorkshire Boys team this year.’
‘I have entered many tournaments this coming season and four of these are world ranking amateur events over multiple days at under 16 level. I am also set to play in my Teesside district boys’ team which I really enjoy.’
‘I finished first in the Northern Junior Tour order of merit last year which took me to the grand final. I shot my first under par round to win by five shots.
‘I have started well this year having just returned from the English School’s under 16 Championships at Wilmslow where I carded rounds of 76 / 68 to finish level par over the 2 rounds placing 3rd.
Ollie’s dad, great uncle and great grandad were all PGA professionals and this is inspiring him to aim for a career in golf. Ollie is a member at two golf clubs – Middlesborough and Cleveland. When he applied for the grant in 2024, his handicap was 5.3.
‘I would love to play for England as an amateur. I want to turn professional and I’m currently giving thought to continuing studies after school in America on a golf scholarship.
My aim is to have a career in golf and play on the world’s major tours. I know it will be tough, but I have a great coach and if I keep working on what he tells me to I can go far in the sport.’
Dad Adam Scott said his son was dedicated to golf and had a promising future in the sport. ‘He is driven and works hard on his game. I am immensely proud of his dedication and believe he can go a long way in the sport – hopefully one day representing England at amateur level. The grant has been a huge help.’
