HomeQ & AQuestionsWhen should I eat with a dose... Question posted by bcohler on 11 April 2015 Last updated on 16 April 2015 I have been taking Adderall for about a year, and it has made a huge difference in my life, both socially and because I don't drink any more in an effort to calm down. Two days ago, I read in an eHow article that I should eat at least one hour before taking Adderall and not eat again for two hours, because eating too soon before or after Adderall can decrease its effectiveness. I've never heard this eating time information before. Is this, in fact, the correct way to take Adderall? I will certainly follow this if it's true, but it makes taking Adderall a little more difficult with my schedule. Thanks for your help! Added 11 April 2015:I'm taking Adderall IR, and not ER. Need to me too, I have been on Adderall IR for years too! I can surmise the reason may be because of citric acid. It is an ingredient in many foods and drinks, and people may not ebe aware of its high potential to reduce the absorption of Adderall. I have found most patient info only addresses the reduced absorption from taking Vitamin C within 1-2 hours of taking Adderall with it. And what is Vitamin C but ascorbic acid, also present in lots of foodstuffs! I personally try my best not to eat or drink anything containing citric acid/anything too acidic an hour before or after I take my doses of Adderall. To me, (?reading some ingredient lists is worth avoiding losing the proper amount of medication!
