Sometimes, this may pose more of a risk to a child than continuing Lexapro treatment during pregnancy.If you’re pregnant or plan to become pregnant, talk with your doctor about the possible risks and benefits of taking Lexapro. They can help you determine whether Lexapro is right for you.If you become pregnant while taking Lexapro, do not suddenly stop taking the drug. Doing so can cause withdrawal symptoms.* (With withdrawal symptoms, you experience uncomfortable side effects after you stop taking a drug.) Instead, talk with your doctor right away about the possible risks and benefits of continuing Lexapro during your pregnancy. If you and your doctor agree you should stop Lexapro, your doctor will explain how to do so gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms.If you decide to take Lexapro during pregnancy, talk with your doctor about enrolling in the National Pregnancy Registry for Antidepressants. This registry records health information about pregnant people who take antidepressants and what effects the drugs may have on their children.
