HomeQ & AQuestionsDoes gabapentin stop working... Question posted by Painfulhubby on 25 March 2018 Last updated on 13 October 2019 by 7empest I husband has been on gabapentin for approximately two years. He feels that it’s not working as well anymore. Does gabapentin stopped working as well after taking a certain length of time? I had taken gabapentin since 2001 off and on throughout my life. It worked up until about 2011. I started lyrica and at first didn’t like it and we switched me back to gabapentin which then didn’t even come close to working for me. And when you talk about an electrical feeling? YES!!! The electrical fire is what I call it. When the gabapentin was coming out of my system I felt it. I felt it without lyrica too though. So it is different for all. Cindy, did he notice any prickly feelings or itching over his entire body as he have tapered? I just feel like my nerves are standing on edge, almost electrical. I was on them for over 10 yrs. and have just recently gotten off after a slow taper. Yes it does! Gabapentin worked for me a few years; then it stopped working. It’s different for each person because we are different. I will be tapered off by mid to late summer. Can’t wait No, definitely not! I’ve been on it since 2007.
