Emelia Deslandes is on a mission is to beat her dad!

The 11-year-old, who plays at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, was awarded a set of PING Prodi G golf clubs by the Trust and now she is working hard to improve her game.

“These clubs feel better and make it easier to hit with,” said Emelia. “They are helping me to level up my skills, and I would love to become better than my dad!”

Emelia Deslandes said her old clubs were too small, and she’s super happy with her new ones because a new set would have cost too much.

“I’m so happy with them and have been excited to use them because they are helping me play better golf,” said Emelia, who is heading to high school this September.

Dad Chris introduced Emelia to golf at the age of seven by taking her along to group coaching at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club.

He said: “Emilia’s not close to beating me yet. She is definitely getting better but there is a little way to go.”

She now has a weekly golf lesson, sometimes playing for three hours as part of her county coaching sessions.

“I also try and play on the course with my friend Jess who is also at the coaching sessions with me,” she added.

“Golf is a hobby I can enjoy with my friend, with my parents (dad plays, and mum caddies) and my grandparents who are both avid golfers.

“I enjoy the challenge and improving my skills, it feels good when I hit a better shot than last time.

“I also went to watch the PIF Championship at the Centurion Club where I was able to meet the winner Laura Fuenfstueck, but sadly did not get to meet Charley Hull as she was injured.”

It may take a while, but Emilia is so committed to improving her golf that it can only be a matter of time before she can beat dad Chris. In the meantime, she is working hard towards this!
