Freddie working towards getting a handicap
Freddie Arend, 11, from Norfolk, was awarded a set of Ping Prodi G golf clubs by the England Golf Trust. He loves golf and has been a member of Royal Norwich Golf Club since he was six attending their Junior Academy run by PGA professional Lloyd Jones.
‘My old clubs were second-hand, old and not good quality and had just been handed down to me. They were too heavy, and it was much harder to play with them. I also grew out of them and needed some new ones.’
‘These new clubs are much lighter, and I can be more consistent and hit better. They are really helping my game. I just don’t think I would be as good without these new clubs because they help me play better,’ says Freddie.
His dad says the clubs have made a huge difference. ‘The Trust has helped Freddie with a set of junior clubs that are specifically designed to suit his height and stance. This is such a help during a cost-of-living crisis because golf isn’t the cheapest sport. He can also go back in a couple of years when he has grown and get the clubs reshafted.’
Freddie also plays football for a local club and says it’s important to him to have the two sports. He finds golf fun and started with crazy golf before he joined the junior section at Royal Norwich. He now has regular lessons and plays with his cousin and dad.
Lloyd Jones says: ‘Since receiving the Ping Prodi-G clubs, Freddie spends much more time practicing and playing the Academy Course. He has handed in a total of 36 holes toward his initial handicap – so not too much longer to go’.
