Bobby has qualified for world junior championships – and he got a hole in one!
Seven-year-old Bobby Harry, from Wallasey Golf Club, was awarded a £200 grant from England Golf Trust. He is using the money to help fund travel and tour entries, which can be up to £40 per tournament.
With help from the Trust, the promising youngster’s game is going from strength to strength. He recently qualified for the world junior champions next year in Lough Erne, in Ireland.
We are so grateful for the support from the Trust. It really does help Bobby reach his full potential and have the best opportunities available for his talent,’ said his mum Rachael
The gifted young golfer also made history at Carden Park, in Cheshire, recently, with a hole in one on the first tee at the European Junior Championships.
In its 25-year history, the European Junior Golf Tour has only witnessed three previous hole-in-ones, with Bobby’s being the first in several years.
Bobby’s caddy for the day was his father, who along with Bobby’s mum, witnessed the astonishing moment. For perspective, the odds of hitting a hole-in-one are about 1 in 12,500 for professional adult golfers, making Bobby’s accomplishment all the more spectacular. ‘
He hit 135yards with his PING 3 wood and his tailormade ball (this is now being framed!). We couldn’t believe it,’ said his mum.
‘I have loved golf ever since I can remember,’ says Bobby. I love meeting new friends on the golf course and enjoying a round. My game is getting better each time and I like going to different courses and entering competitions.’
‘When I am older, I want to be a professional golfer and win The Open. Last year I went to The Open and met Tommy Fleetwood and some of the other players. It was the best day and I am hoping one day I will be there playing.’
