Roger Ian Lavington
Roger Lavington’s family decided to fundraise for the England Golf Trust in his memory following his recent death at the age of 84.
‘We want our dad to be remembered for the things that he loved and golf was his huge passion. The money raised in his memory to support young golfers who maybe didn’t have the opportunities in life that he had,’ says daughter Emma Smith.
Roger Ian Lavington born on 8 November 1940 grew up in South London, his passion for golf started as child when he would play with his father and brother.
Married to Maggie 10th October 1964 they had three children (Emma, Sarah and Vanessa). As a quantity surveyor he ran his own business and was a member at St George’s Hill Golf Club, Weybridge, where he was captain from 2006 to 2007 and later served on the board for many years. He had also enjoyed playing at the RAC Golf Club and Epsom golf Club, in Surrey. At his best, he played off a handicap of eight.
Roger was keen that anybody who wanted should be able to play golf and was very much in favour of championing junior players and encouraging their passion and talent.
The family set up a fundraising page on for the trust at muchloved.com which has raised £3,708 so far.
‘We want him to be remembered for the things that he loved and golf was his huge passion. The money raised in his memory would be used to support young golfers who maybe didn’t have the chances in life that he had,’ says Emma.
His friends, family and colleagues have donated, leaving warm and positive messages about Roger. ‘A a true gentleman with a zest for life. He was one in a million.’
The donation is gratefully received by the Trust and will help them to continue to support young golfers from disadvantaged and financially challenged backgrounds so that they may continue and develop the game they love.
