Trust helps apprentice greenkeeper
Apprentice greenkeeper Edison Butler, 16, from Lansdown Golf Club in Gloucestershire has used his England Golf Trust grant to fund lessons and support buying new equipment.
This support has made a positive impact to Edison, now, the promising young golfer has improved his swing and golfing technique and his goal is to take his handicap down to scratch.
‘This year my handicap has dropped from 6.5 to 4.1. It currently it stands at 4.5 but I have been focusing on my swing and technique rather than handicap,’ says Edison.
‘Since the award I have won a few junior opens and club competitions – and most recently I was selected for the under 18s squad, representing Gloucestershire in the Four counties event in Stoke.’
‘I started playing with my Dad when I was about seven and now I play for Lansdown Golf Club. I have been asked to represent the junior section as their Junior Captain.’
Edison plays most afternoons and has also started an apprenticeship in greenkeeping with Bridgewater and Taunton College which means he can head out on the course more easily and practice regularly.
‘Golf is my passion – and it has grown even stronger in recent months. I love being outdoors and doing what I enjoy. ‘
