Unwrapping my new clubs was like Christmas
Ten-year-old William Scott, from Lincolnshire, had only ever used second hand clubs – so the promising junior was over the moon when he was awarded a new set of PING Prodi Junior clubs by the Trust.
‘I can’t tell you how excited he was when he was peeling off the factory seal of his brand new clubs,’ said mum Emma. ‘He’s never experienced having new clubs and told me “It’s like Christmas, Mum.”
‘Golf is one of the few sports William can play as he has two rare conditions which means that his lungs are easily damaged, and he is small for his age. He is a similar height to his brother, who is nearly two years younger, so we can’t hand down clubs as siblings usually would,’ said Emma.
‘We had been looking for a second handset for William and his younger brother for ages, but couldn’t find any. His older sister plays golf and also needed a new set.’
A member at Kenwick Park Golf Club William’s game is thriving – and boosted by the new clubs. He recently won the overall order of merit at the Nottinghamshire Nippers U11’s and won the Pee Wee Ryder Cup against the Shropshire.
‘Going with his new clubs will give him an extra confidence boost because he knows he has the perfect clubs for him and will be super proud to be playing with them,’ said Emma.
‘A huge thank you to the Trust,’ said Emma. ‘They have exceeded our expectations. William was so excited to use them and show them to his friends.’
