Grant is helping my drives go further

Matilda Simpson, 16, from Caldy Golf Club, Birkenhead, was delighted with her grant from the Trust, because it meant she could buy a new driver and up her game.

There was also enough money left to buy some waterproof clothing and now the enthusiastic youngster can play all year round – whatever the weather!

“This grant has massively progressed my golf because I was able to buy a new driver which makes me drive the ball much further,” she said.

“Golf is everything to me. I love the satisfaction of when I strike the ball perfectly.

“I also love the people I’ve met and will meet from playing various competitions. I find it therapeutic, relaxing and rewarding – and sometimes exciting!

“I try to play once a week when I’m not at school, usually on a Sunday. I either play with my mum, brother, or I’ve got a lot of junior girls who I really enjoy playing with.

“I am a member of a Caldy, but during the winter they haven’t got any practice facilities. This means that I must use the local driving range.

“The grant has helped me buy the right all-weather gear so I can go more often and work on my swing and distance throughout the winter.

“I plan to enter as many competitions as possible and bring my handicap down as low as possible. My goal is to be off 10 or under by the end of next year and I’m looking into going to Hartpury College which offers an incredible course in golf as an extended diploma.

“It’s important to keep reducing my handicap but the thing I most enjoy about golf is all the amazing people I’ve met through it. It’s amazing to find other girls my age also enjoying the game as much as I do.”
