The 12-year-old Emily had outgrown her junior clubs
Promising young golfer Emily Wood is one of the most committed juniors at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club in Nottinghamshire and is learning fast – but she desperately needed some new clubs.
The 12-year-old had outgrown her TaylorMade Rory junior set but wasn’t quite tall enough for a ladies’ set yet – so her coach PGA professional Richard Strange thought she would benefit from the custom-fitted PING Prodi G set.
The England Golf Trust awarded her a set in March 2025 and since then Emily has already reduced her handicap to 28.4 after starting the year on 52.1
‘I love my new clubs and I’m continually thankful to the Trust for awarding them to me. They have made a huge impact on my golf,’ says Emily, who plays at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club. ‘They help me stand correctly to the ball and give me confidence.’
She has also won the Nottinghamshire Girls 9-hole county championships, was runner up in the Midland Girls North Region 18-hole challenge and won the first Ladies board competition at her home club.
‘Emily is one of the most committed juniors I coach. She has progressed extremely well over the past few years and is now an integral part of both the golf club junior section, representing several of the club teams – and is also on the county development pathway,’ said PGA professional Richard Strange. These new clubs will really help her future development.
Emily started playing at four because both her parents were keen golfers. She entered her first club competition at the age of eight.
‘I often play with my parents or grandparents as they also play. I enter a lot of competitions, like the Notts Nippers, so I play with a lot of different people. In Winter I play around once a fortnight and have weekly group coaching,’ said Emily.
‘In Summer I play up to three times a week because the days are longer and I can play after school.’
‘I feel playing golf makes me more interesting person, helps me meet new friends who share my interest.’
