Nine-year-old Lewis reaping rewards from England Golf Trust
Nine-year-old Lewis Simmonds from West Herts Golf Club in Hertfordshire dreams to one day become a professional golfer – and his new set of Ping Prodi-G clubs is helping him on the way to achieving his dream.
Since the England Golf Trust awarded him a new set of Ping Prodi-G clubs six months ago, he has reduced his handicap from 31.0 to 28.4 and now feels more confident with his game.
He said: “It means the world to me to have been awarded these clubs. They have helped me immensely. I am becoming more consistent and overall gaining more distance.
“It’s great to have a set of clubs that are the right for me and they have given me so much more confidence.
“Golf means the world to me. I absolutely love it and wish to be a professional one day.”
Before the award, Lewis was using a mishmash of second-hand clubs. Some had been donated from his golf club and a couple his parents had bought from Sports Direct.
The promising junior was introduced to golf by his father and uncle who are both keen golfers.
Lewis added: “My uncle sponsored me to become a member of the Academy at West Herts just after my eighth birthday and I’ve now been playing for 20 months.
“I practice most days, playing several holes two to three times a week with my dad. I also attend Academy and Op36 lessons, as well as a mid-week training session. I play with various age groups from teenagers to adults at my club.
“I’d like to thank England Golf Trust for the grant as these clubs have made a real difference and given me a real confidence boost.”
