Oscar’s golf has been supercharged by is new Ping clubs

Promising young golfer Oscar Marks, 11 from Manchester, dedicates all his spare time to golf – but his clubs just weren’t up to the job.

Now, he has a new set of Ping Prodi-G clubs from the England Golf Trust and they have helped him supercharge his game, play better in competitions and reduce his handicap.

‘These new clubs have been a game changer. I have played more than 200 rounds since I received them in March 2023 and I am so grateful for them. They have kick started my golf and my handicap dropped from 32 to 20.’

‘I love golf. It is the only sport I play and all my spare time is dedicated to it,’ says Oscar. ‘I started playing golf in the garden with my dad’s old clubs and begged him to take me to the golf course.’

Oscar’s first set of golf clubs was the U.S. Kids Golf Ultralight 54. Switching to the Ping set, awarded by the Trust, was a game-changer for Oscar.

‘They were properly fitted to his size and swing mechanics and this made an instant difference, allowing him to play more comfortably and efficiently,’ says dad Zac Marks.

‘The improved equipment not only enhanced his overall experience but also had a significant impact on his performance—his handicap dropped dramatically as a result.’

‘The moment we received the email informing us that Oscar was being rewarded with a set of Ping Prodi G clubs was unforgettable. His face lit up with pure joy, and he couldn’t stop smiling. It was a moment of excitement, knowing that his dedication and passion for golf were being recognised in such a meaningful way,’ added Zac.

Oscar started lessons in August 2021, his coach  PGA professional Thomas Bromilow, at Whitefield Golf Club, said Oscar’s commitment to golf was outstanding. ‘He dedicates a lot of time to practising so he is giving himself the best possible opportunity to become a star of the future.’

‘He is one of the youngest members of Whitefield Golf Club but dedicates more time playing and practising than many of the older elite players at the club.’

Dad Zac said Oscar ‘eats, sleeps and breathes’ golf. This is his own choice and he doesn’t need to be pestered to practise. ‘If he had his way, he would be on the golf course playing 24-hours a day,’ said Zac.

‘Oscar first picked up a golf club in May 2020, during covid. This was a happy accident. I started clearing out the garage and moved various items to the garden, including my old junior clubs. As I returned to the garden Oscar had picked them up and started swinging.’

‘I built him a driving range out of a pallet and artificial grass and he started hitting trainer golf balls. Oscar has not put clubs down since.’

Oscar plans to reduce his handicap, aiming to get below 15 this summer and play as many tournaments as possible.
