Ruby reduces her handicap by half!

A grant for coaching from the England Golf Trust has helped 17-year-old Ruby Reeve to reduce her handicap by over half from 13.7 to just 6.8.

The talented golfer from Thetford Golf Club in Norfolk used her grant for lessons to work on her swing and short game, which has made a huge different to her golf.

She said: “It has helped me to cut my handicap by half. I then had the chance to play in some better competitions, including the English Girls’ Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Royal Norwich. I don’t think I would have been able to play in these without the coaching funded by the Trust grant.

“My whole game has improved along with my course management and confidence, and I have become a smarter player.”

This year Ruby is also the Norfolk County Junior Captain and was awarded a haul of trophies at her club’s annual presentation, including Most Improved Player for the second year in a row, as well as Ladies’ Player of the Year.

In 2026, Ruby has a place at University of Birmingham to study BSc Applied Golf Management, a degree which is taught in collaboration with the PGA.

She added: “Golf is very much a positive for me. It pushes me and my confidence and encourages me to improve my communication skills.

“Thank you England Golf Trust, the grant has made such a difference to me and my game. I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”
